Do Kwon set for extradition to South Korea after Montenegro court rejects appeal

The Montenegro Appellate Court rejected Do Kwon’s appeal on impending extradition to South Korea. Kwon was arrested last year following the collapse of Terra Luna and its stablecoin UST in 2022. Do Kwon, wanted for prosecution over his role in the implosion that sank Terra, will now be extradited to South Korea. Montenegro court rejects Kwon’s appeal Today, the Appellate Court of Montenegro declined Kwon’s appeal that sought orders quashing his extradition to South Korea. The appeal s court noted, according to an announcement on March 20, that its decision was final. He will not go to the United States or stay in Montenegro, where he was arrested in 2023. Do Kwon appeals extradition decision from Montenegrin high court

The founder of Terraform Labs is fighting a court order mandating his extradition to either South Korea or the U.S. for criminal prosecution. Do Kwon, a former international fugitive, submitted an appeal on Dec. 6, contesting the approval of his extradition issued by a High Court of Podgorica, Montenegro’s capital city.  The Terraform Labs founder reportedly stated that he does not submit to the court ’s ruling on his transfer to South Korea, his home country, or the U.S., where he is embroiled in litigation with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).  Authorities must now consider his appeal and review the initial extradition order. Kwon’s filing at a Montenegrin Court of Appeal was submitted 11 days before authorities were set to decide his extradition destination on Dec. 15.  A Podgorica court previously ordered his removal from the country as crypto.news reported, following his incarceration in a Balkan prison for travel document forgery. Craig Wright wins in U.S. appeals court over multi-billion-dollar Bitcoin dispute

Craig Wright, claiming to be Bitcoin’s creator, won a notable victory in a U.S. Appeals Court, sparking renewed discussions in the cryptocurrency community. Craig Wright, who claims to have created Bitcoin, recently won a big court case in the U.S. Appeals Court. The case was regarding Bitcoin that he and the late David Kleiman mined together over ten years ago. The court decided that Wright and Kleiman were not in a legal partnership. Now led by David’s brother Ira, the Kleiman family could not disprove the original court ’s ruling, and also had difficulty proving that Wright was obfuscating attempts at carrying out the legal process, and thus charges were dismissed. The ruling confirms a decision made by a jury in Florida in 2021, in which the jury decided if the Kleiman family had the right to half of the Bitcoin (BTC) fortune, worth up to $36 billion per Wright’s request for punitive damages. The court ruled that Wright’s lawyers erred in digging in ...

SEC to seek interlocutory appeal in Ripple case

The SEC's interlocutory appeal comes nearly a month after Judge Analisa Torres laid out her non-final ruling. The United States Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a letter of intent to request an interlocutory appeal to Judge Analisa Torres’ July 13th summary judgment in its ongoing legal battle against Ripple Labs. In an Aug. 9 letter to Judge Torres, the SEC explained it believed her decision warrants a fresh look by an appellate court. “Interlocutory review is warranted here. These two issues involve controlling questions of law on which there is substantial ground for differences of opinion as reflected by an intra-district split that has already developed," the SEC wrote. The SEC added a "timely appellate review' is warranted given the number of actions currently pending that may be affected by how the Court of Appeals resolves the issues at hand. The filing comes nearly a month after Ripple scored a partial victory over the regulator over the legal ...
