Bitcoin whale sends Julian Assange 8 BTC to pay for private jet
WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange has arrived back in his native Australia debt-free after eight Bitcoin s worth roughly $500,000 were sent to a fundraiser covering the costs of his private jet. As reported by Alistair Milne, the CIO of Altana Digital Currency Fund, an anonymous donor sent 8.0717 Bitcoin s worth over $494,000 to an address listed on the Free Julian Assange site. This is in addition to the £345,992 ($437,925) sent to the Crowdfunder set up by Julian’s wife, Stella. She and Julian needed $520,000 to pay off the Australian government for providing the charter flight that took him to Saipan and then on to Australia. Assange pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count of espionage in a Saipan court as part of a plea deal. He has since landed back in Australia a free man.
